Drewsteignton is an ideal base for exploring Dartmoor.
From the village you can walk to Castle Drogo along Hunter’s Path or Fisherman’s Path, which take you through woods and fields to the steep valley of the Teign Gorge and the banks of the River Teign.
The moorland town of Chagford, three miles distant, has an outdoor swimming pool by the river and a variety of good shops.
A multitude of events are promoted by the Dartmoor National Park on its website www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk ranging from six-hour yomps on the high moor to two-hour strolls looking at megaliths by moonlight.
There are many art and craft events and venues in the area. Dartmoor Arts School events take place in and around Drewsteignton. The Summer school takes place during the last week of June and the first week of July but other events take place throughout the year.
Cob building courses take place on a regular basis, organised by www.abeysmallcombe.com and the best contemporary craft gallery in the South West, The Devon Guild of Craftsmen, is a short drive away in Bovey Tracey.
Drewsteignton also provides an eclectic mix of entertainments, dreamed up by its residents, for the enjoyment of all. The world famous Teignton Fayre, the first weekend in June and The Great Duck Race are two memorable examples.
